What Sobriety, Top Writer, Camels, and Perception All Have in Common
An interesting thing happened on the way to earning top writer status in Travel — I decided to not tinker with the ending of a piece to give it a better takeaway for the reader. I also discovered that my initial hesitation with landscape images floating to the borders of the page was outdated and disillusioned.
As an agoraphobe, it tickled me to have bragging rights in a category normally reserved for people who leave the house. So I wrote Confessions of an Agoraphobic Travel Writer. In the end, I realized that I have seen a lot of the world and ventured to a lot of amazing places. When my bags are unpacked, I grab a pen and love sharing those quirky stories with the world. I also realized that not all journeys require travel.
Speaking of travel, I took a break from writing and spent a week exploring Edisto Island on the South Carolina coast. I believe synchronicity is a roadmap from the universe, so the fifth time I refreshed Airbnb listings and found a carriage house available for the two random nights I needed in downtown Charleston, SC, I went for it.
My partner and I walked the city for miles each day, but the highlight was a ghost tour in the Old City Jail where we met up with The Ghost of Lavinia Fisher.
